Leptospirosis in Thailand, Situation Update, No. 1 (2018)

 

A total of 175 cases with zero death have been reported from 35 provinces out of 77 between 1 January 2018 to 9 February 2018. The Morbidity Rate (MR) was 0.27 per 100,000 population. Reported cases were Thai (97.7%), Burmese (1.7%), and Laos (0.6%). Majority of the patients (41.7%) were agriculturers followed by labors (24.6%) and students (9.7%). Male to female ratio was 1 to 0.23. Most affected age-groups were 45-54 years old (21.71%), 55-64 years old (17.14%), and 35-44 years old (16.57%).


Top 5 provinces notified with the highest Morbidity Rates were as follows:
1.
Yala (MR = 1.94 per 100,000 population)
2.
Si Sa Ket (MR = 1.77 per 100,000 population)
3.
Nakhon Si Thammarat (MR = 1.74 per 100,000 population)
4. Phatthalung (MR = 1.73 per 100,000 population)
5. Trang (MR = 1.25 per 100,000 population)

     
Most cases were reported from the
Southern Region (MR = 0.95 per 100,000 population), followed by the Northeastern Region (MR = 0.30 per 100,000 population), the Northern Region (MR = 0.13 per 100,000 population), and the Central Region (MR = 0.02 per 100,000 population).
