Rabies in Thailand, Situation Update, No. 3 (2017)

 


A total of 4 cases have been reported between 1 January 2017 to 11 June 2017 from 3 provinces, namely, Chachoengsao, Samutprakarn and Chonburi. The Case Fatality Rate (CFR) was 100%. Reported cases were Thai (75.0%) and Laos (25.0%).

 

Morbidity Rate in Chachoengsao, Samutprakarn and Chonburi were 0.29, 0.08 and 0.07 per 100,000 population, respectively.

 

In 2017, so far, laboratory test revealed 576 animal rabies. Most of them (89.83%) were rabid dogs.

 

In 2016, 13 deaths were reported in nine provinces, namely, Rayong (1), Songkla (1), Samut Prakan (3), Tak (2), Chachoengsao (2), Sakaew (1), Bangkok (1), Sisaket (1), and Chonburi (1). Most of them (11) were Thai. Two deaths were notified as Burmese.

 

In 2016, laboratory reported 521 animal rabies. Most of them were rabid dogs.
