Leptospirosis in Thailand, Situation Update, No. 6 (2017)

 


A total of 2,117 cases with 43 deaths have been reported from 65 provinces out of 77 between 1 January 2017 to 25 September 2017. The Morbidity Rate (MR) was 3.24 per 100,000 population. Reported cases were Thai (98.3%), Burmese (1.4%), Laos (0.1%), and Other (0.1%). Majority of the patients (48.4%) were agriculturers followed by labors (22.9%) and unknown/preschool (9.0%). Male to female ratio was 1 to 0.24. Most affected age-groups were 45-54 years old (22.06%), 35-44 years old (19.46%), and 55-64 years old (17.24%).   


Top 5 provinces notified with the highest Morbidity Rates were as follows:
1.
Sisaket (MR = 31.42 per 100,000 population)
2.
Trang (MR = 13.60 per 100,000 population)
3.
Krabi (MR = 12.19 per 100,000 population)

4. Nakhon Si Thammarat (MR = 12.13 per 100,000 population)
5.
Pang-nga (MR = 11.80 per 100,000 population)
     
Most cases were reported from the
Southern Region (MR = 6.69 per 100,000 population), followed by the Northeastern Region (MR = 5.44 per 100,000 population), the Northern Region (MR = 2.01 per 100,000 population), and the Central Region (MR = 0.30 per 100,000 population).
