Leptospirosis in Thailand, Situation Update, No. 1 (2017)

 


A total of 461 cases with 15 deaths have been reported from 49 provinces out of 77 between 1 January 2017 to 16 March 2017. The Morbidity Rate (MR) was 0.70 per 100,000 population. Reported cases were Thai (98.9%) and Burmese (1.1%). Majority of the patients (46.4%) were agriculturers followed by labors (26.5%) and students (8.7%). Male to female ratio was 1 : 0.32. Most affected age-groups were 35-44 years old (21.48%), 45-54 years old (19.74%) and 25-34 years old (17.79%).   


Top 5 provinces notified with the highest Morbidity Rates were as follows:
1.
Krabi (MR = 5.66 per 100,000 population)
2.
Nakhon Si Thammarat (MR = 5.61 per 100,000 population)
3.
Sisaket (MR = 5.52 per 100,000 population)
4. Phatthalung (MR = 4.41 per 100,000 population)
5. Trang (MR = 4.06 per 100,000 population)

     
Most cases were reported from the
Southern Region (MR = 2.39 per 100,000 population), followed by the Northeastern Region (MR = 0.98), the Northern Region (MR = 0.13), and the Central Region (MR = 0.05).
